Owner and Concept Chef
Ivy Perlman Haaks

Chef Ivy brings her years of professional experience and travels to the creation of HOM.  Starting out in New York City attending the Natural Gourmet Institute she completed her first chef’s training.  This provided a comprehensive understanding of health-oriented plant-based macrobiotic cooking and baking.  Ivy began her career working in NYC as a vegan baker spending several years working in bakeries and eventually supplying several wholesale clients.  After five years she felt the need to broaden her horizons out of a small niche vegan market.   Moving to Paris she enrolled in Le Cordon Bleu and after two years graduated with a Grand Diplome in cuisine and pastry.  Having a love of food, travel and education she continued on at Le Cordon Bleu in Adelaide, South Australia and earned her master's degree in Gastronomy.  Returning to the States she settled in Southern California and began putting her education and experience into practice.  She spent a collective six years as the executive pastry chef at M Café de Chaya and Real Food Daily, creating exclusively vegan pastries.  She built a loyal following of patrons who were thrilled to be able to enjoy vegan desserts when it was still a rare find.

A Florida native raised in Coral Gables, she returned to her home state in 2011.  She began working as a private chef for families in Boca Raton as well as Islesboro Maine in the summer.  During this time, she struck up a partnership with Farmers Table restaurant in 2014 to create their desserts.  It has been a thriving partnership ever since and the restaurant is known for its many vegan and gluten-free dessert offerings.

Chef Ivy is excited to bring all her passion for healthy food and living to the creation of HOM.  Her love of food and hospitality combined with a business savvy entrepreneurial spirit come from her family roots.   Her Dad, Clifford Perlman, a Miami Beach attorney turned restaurateur bought a hot dog and beer bar named Lums on Miami Beach in 1956.  He turned it into the beloved Lums restaurant chain, a multi-unit international franchise.  Cliff became one of the early trailblazers in franchising.
